# Importing History

> Import existing AI conversation history into BaseLayer.

# Importing Conversation History

Already have months of AI conversations? Import them into BaseLayer so your memory starts with existing knowledge instead of from scratch.

## Claude

1. Go to [claude.ai](https://claude.ai) → **Settings → Account → Export Data**
2. Anthropic will email you a download link (usually within a few minutes)
3. Download the ZIP file
4. In BaseLayer, go to **Settings → Import Data → Claude**
5. Select the ZIP file and click **Import**

BaseLayer will process all conversations in the export and run them through the dream engine.

<Note>Claude exports can be large. Import may take several minutes depending on how many conversations you have.</Note>

## ChatGPT

1. Go to [chatgpt.com](https://chatgpt.com) → **Settings → Data Controls → Export Data**
2. OpenAI will email you a download link
3. Download the ZIP file
4. In BaseLayer, go to **Settings → Import Data → ChatGPT**
5. Select the ZIP file and click **Import**

## Gemini

Google does not currently offer a bulk conversation export for Gemini.

To capture your Gemini conversations going forward, install the [Chrome extension](/integrations/chrome-extension). It will capture new conversations as they happen.

## OpenRouter

OpenRouter does not currently offer a bulk conversation export.

Install the [Chrome extension](/integrations/chrome-extension) to capture new OpenRouter conversations going forward.

## After importing

Once an import completes, the dream engine will begin processing the conversations. Depending on volume, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.

You can monitor progress in **Settings → Dream Engine**. You'll see:

* Number of conversations queued
* Number processed
* Entities extracted so far

<Tip>You don't need to wait for the import to finish before using BaseLayer. New conversations are captured and processed in parallel.</Tip>

<Note>Import processing is always free, regardless of your plan tier. There are no limits on conversation ingestion.</Note>
