# Installation

> Download and install the BaseLayer desktop app on macOS.

# Installation

The BaseLayer desktop app captures your AI conversations, connects to your cloud memory, and hosts IDE watchers for coding tools.

## System requirements

* **macOS 10.15 (Catalina)** or later
* Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) or Intel

## Download

The download page will detect your chip automatically. If you need a specific version:

* **Apple Silicon** (M1, M2, M3, M4): `BaseLayer-arm64.dmg`
* **Intel**: `BaseLayer-x64.dmg`

## Install

1. Open the downloaded `.dmg` file
2. Drag **BaseLayer** into your **Applications** folder
3. Open BaseLayer from Applications

<Note>On first launch, macOS Gatekeeper may block the app. If you see a warning that the app can't be opened, go to **System Settings → Privacy & Security** and click **Open Anyway**.</Note>

## Verify it's running

Once launched, you'll see the BaseLayer icon in your menu bar (top-right of your screen). Click it to open the app window. The **Connections** tab shows what's currently connected and ingesting.

## Auto-launch on startup

BaseLayer starts automatically when you log in. You can change this in **Settings → System Preferences → Start on Login**.

## Updates

BaseLayer checks for updates automatically. When a new version is available, you'll see a notification. Updates are downloaded and installed with one click.

## Uninstall

To remove BaseLayer:

1. Quit the app (menu bar icon → Quit)
2. Move BaseLayer from Applications to Trash

<Note>Uninstalling the desktop app does not delete your data. Your memory is stored in the cloud and remains accessible after reinstalling.</Note>
