FAQ

Where is my data stored?

Your memory is stored securely in the cloud on BaseLayer’s servers. This means your memory is accessible from any device and any connected AI tool. See Privacy & Security for details on how your data is protected.

Can I use BaseLayer offline?

BaseLayer requires an internet connection for most features. Your memory is cloud-hosted, so searching and recalling knowledge requires connectivity. Conversation capture via the Chrome extension and IDE watchers will queue data locally and sync when you’re back online.

What AI providers are supported?

Capture (conversations in):
  • Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, OpenRouter, Open WebUI (via Chrome extension)
  • Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, Aider, Gemini CLI (via desktop IDE watcher)
Recall (knowledge out via MCP):
  • Claude.ai and ChatGPT (remote MCP via OAuth)
  • Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot (MCP)

What platforms does BaseLayer support?

The desktop app is currently available for macOS (10.15+). Windows and Linux support is on the roadmap. There’s also an iOS app with Siri and Apple Watch support.

How do I delete my data?

Delete your data: Contact support@baselayer.id to request full data deletion. All entities, conversations, and account data will be permanently removed. Delete your account: Contact support@baselayer.id for full account and data deletion.

How much does BaseLayer cost?

BaseLayer offers a Free tier with unlimited conversation ingestion and 10 memory queries per month. Pro (14/monthor14/month or 140/year) includes unlimited queries, faster knowledge processing, and media support. See Pricing for details.

Can multiple people share a memory?

BaseLayer memories are personal by default. Each person has their own account and memory. Team and organization support is available for shared knowledge across groups — see Teams for details.

How fast is knowledge processing?

It depends on your plan. Pro users get near-realtime processing (about 2 minutes after a conversation). Free tier users get processing every 2 hours. Either way, new conversations are captured immediately and queued for processing.

Is BaseLayer open source?

The MCP tools specification is open. The desktop app and backend are not currently open source.
