Chrome Extension

The BaseLayer Chrome extension automatically captures your conversations on Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, OpenRouter, and Open WebUI.

Install

  1. Visit the BaseLayer Chrome Extension page
  2. Click Add to Chrome

Connect to BaseLayer

  1. Click the BaseLayer extension icon in your Chrome toolbar
  2. Click Connect to BaseLayer
  3. You’ll be taken to BaseLayer’s connection page — sign in with your BaseLayer account to authorize
  4. That’s it. The extension is now connected and capturing
If you prefer to connect manually, you can create an API key at baselayer.id/credentials and enter it in the extension popup. This is only needed for custom setups — the one-click connection above is recommended.

Supported sites

The extension captures conversations on:
  • claude.ai: Anthropic’s Claude
  • chatgpt.com: OpenAI’s ChatGPT
  • gemini.google.com: Google’s Gemini
  • openrouter.ai: OpenRouter
  • Open WebUI instances

Verify it’s working

Click the BaseLayer icon in your Chrome toolbar. You’ll see:
  • Green dot: capturing on this page
  • Gray dot: not on a supported site
  • Red dot: error (check the popup for details)
The popup also shows recent capture activity: the last few conversations and their timestamps.

What gets captured

The extension captures the full conversation text: your messages and the AI’s responses. This includes:
  • Message content
  • Conversation title
  • Timestamps
  • Which AI tool was used
It does not capture:
  • Your browsing history on other sites
  • Form inputs on non-AI sites
  • Passwords or authentication tokens

Privacy

All conversation data is encrypted before being sent to your memory. The extension uses AES-256-GCM encryption. Conversation data is encrypted in transit using AES-256-GCM.

Troubleshooting

Extension not capturing:
  • Check for the green status dot in the popup
  • Try refreshing the AI page
  • Make sure you’re connected (click the extension icon to check)
Extension not showing in toolbar:
  • Click the puzzle piece icon in Chrome → pin BaseLayer
Conflicts with other extensions:
  • BaseLayer is designed to work alongside other extensions. If you experience issues, try disabling other extensions temporarily to identify conflicts.
The extension also works in Chromium-based browsers: Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, and Vivaldi.
